5 Ways to Prepare for Your Home Renovation Project

Home renovation projects can be disruptive to your daily life. At Kitchens by Oaks, we want to help make the experience as seamless as possible. With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of five ways you can prepare for your upcoming renovation project.

Choose Where You Will Prepare Meals and Eat

If you’re remodeling the kitchen, you have to consider where you’ll be doing meal preparation and sitting down to eat. Do you have a space that you can convert into a temporary kitchen? It’s important to think about this ahead — before your family gets hungry!

Decide What You Will Eat

Even if you set up a temporary kitchen, the selection of meals you can prepare may be severely limited. This may be a good time for grilling outside — you can grill everything from the main course to dessert! Consider freezing some meals before construction starts to pop in the slow cooker later!

You may want to beef up your budget to order food or eat out more often than usual during the kitchen remodel.

Consider Kids and Pets

Construction can be loud and confusing or even frightening to small children and pets. Make plans to have time away from the house to take a break. Make sure kids know that they need to stay out of the rooms that are being remodeled for safety reasons.

If your child takes naps and is intolerant of noise, now is a good time to consider an alternate place for naptime.

Prepare the Rest of Your Home

Remodeling includes construction. This means noise, vibrations, and dust. Take pictures off of walls in the adjacent rooms and spaces — and put any breakable items away during construction. Better safe than sorry! And putting those fragile items away will keep them clean.

Cover furniture with plastic or old sheets to protect it from the inevitable dust. You’ll save time on cleanup later by protecting your furniture ahead.

Get Yourself Ready

Remind yourself that renovations are inconvenient, loud, and dusty — BUT when they are over, you will have an amazing new space in your home. Our contractors will do their best to minimize the inconvenience and have your project done as efficiently as possible.
