German Style Sweet & Sour Green Beans
The perfect side dish for a turkey dinner, green beans are a Thanksgiving staple. With vinegar and bacon, this recipe packs an extra punch of flavor!
This recipe serves six. Total cooking time takes roughly 75 minutes.
2 cans (15 oz) green beans
8 strips of bacon
1 tablespoon sugar
⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
1 white onion, diced
Salt & pepper to taste
Cook bacon in a medium pan until crisp. Remove the bacon from the skillet —do not drain fat— and set aside. Add onion into bacon fat and cook in the grease until tender. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir in sugar.
Add green beans to the pan and stir to combine. Cover and simmer on low for one hour. Crumble bacon into bite-sized pieces and sprinkle on top of beans to serve.
