The Colors of 2022

It’s fall — the time when most of the major paint brands announce their colors of the year. Usually the colors are diverse, ranging from warm pinks to cool grays. For 2022, so far the colors are all shades of green! Even Valspar, which chose a palette of 12 colors, lists its green hue, Blanched Thyme, first. Why is the focus on green for the next year? We have a few theories.

The Psychology of Green

Green symbolizes nature and tranquility. It inspires creativity, relieves stress, improves focus, and positively impacts health. Shades of green have a natural calming effect. Psychologically, green is associated with optimistic feelings.

The varying shades of green chosen by major paint manufacturers for 2022 are soft, organic, and soothing colors that evoke feelings of peace and nature.

Why Green?

Many of us are struggling with psychological and social issues from dealing with the daily stressors of COVID-19 for the better part of two years. People of all ages are suffering from symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other types of distress.

We need our environment to feel peaceful, especially now that so many of us are working from home. PPG, Sherwin-Williams, BEHR, Glidden, Benjamin Moore, and Valspar are determined to help us bring much-needed calm into our lives by surrounding us with green tones for 2022.

Choosing the Right Green for You

The right green paint will bring the verdant, tranquil tones of nature into your home. Each of the greens chosen for color of the year was chosen for its connection to nature from BEHR’s sea glass-inspired Breezeway to Glidden’s delicious Guacamole. Check their websites for colors that complement and enhance the tones.

It’s great that we have the “colors of the year,” but these are a tiny sampling of the green hues available in interior paint. Explore what’s out there. Order samples or pick them up from retailers. Look at the colors in the natural light of your home. Then pick the green that makes you feel good. That’s what it’s all about, right?
