Kitchen Trends to

to Follow in 2020

It’s the most functional room in your house, so why not make it reflect your own style! The year 2020 is about warmth, color, mixing and matching. Below are some top trends to follow when remodeling your kitchen this year.

QUARTZ COUNTERTOPS

If you are looking for elegance and timeless style, Carrara marble is the way to go. However, the natural properties of marble make it prone to staining, pitting and discoloration. Quartz offers the look of natural marble, but requires much less maintenance. It also comes in hundreds of patterns and colors, from concrete to granite and even if you want a little sparkle! Designer tip: choosing a countertop with a matte finish is a subtle way to soften the look of the quartz.

If stone countertops don’t fit your aesthetic, replace your outdated and tired laminate countertops with warm wood for a durable upgrade. Butcher block is virtually maintenance-free, only needing an occasional coating of mineral oil, and will add a beautiful natural element to any kitchen. Designer tip: instead of using butcher block for your entire top, consider adding it to just the island or one area of the kitchen for a functional and beautiful focal point.

WALLS

Do you have a blank wall in your kitchen and aren’t sure how to dress it up? Installing wood-look planks from floor to ceiling will give your space a warm and rustic look, or use simple white shiplap for a clean and easy accent wall. This is a great technique for any room in the house, not just your kitchen! And don’t forget about the 5th wall, the ceiling! Paint a fun hue, or add white paneling to add some unexpected charm to your kitchen space. Designer tip: add even more interest by installing the planks in a large chevron pattern!

Color

If you want to make your kitchen come alive, consider a statement-making backsplash or even a color other than white or gray for your cabinetry. Blues and greens are definitely trending for cabinet colors in 2020, and pair wonderfully with a marble-look quartz countertop. Your tile backsplash can be a simple subway tile in a unique color or a dazzling mosaic! If you prefer to change your color scheme over time, bring in accents with your table linens, decorative items, or upholstered bar stools. Designer tip: add a decorative tile on the back of your island or peninsula. Not only will it provide an exciting focal point, but will also be easy to clean.

Open Shelves

The open shelving trend is here to stay. Open shelves allow you to showcase your kitchenware, heirlooms and antiques, and everything is easy to find! Your designer can also plan for the cabinets below the countertop to be super functional as well. By providing inserts and organizers for dishes, glasses, and storage containers, your open shelves will stay organized and clutter-free! Designer tip: keep everyday items on the lowest and most accessible shelf, with the more fragile and decorative items up top.

Natural Wood Tones

With the trend of white and gray cabinets still leading the design world, mixing in a warm tone with natural hardwood flooring helps to balance the color palette and give dimension to the space. And if a two-tone kitchen is on your Pinterest board, consider mixing in a natural wood stain on the island. Designer tip: remember that paragraph about butcher block countertops? A perfect way to bring warmth to the kitchen!
